Snapshots of open education making a difference

From Utah: The Utah Board of Higher Education revised its learning materials policy this summer, adding guardrails on automatic textbook charge programs and requiring every institution to maintain an annual affordability plan. The updated policy also explicitly allows OER work to count toward faculty tenure and promotion, building on a strong foundation of institutional effort across the state. Read More>>

From Maine: UMaine Libraries announced an expanded OER grant program in early September, with faculty now eligible for awards of up to $1,500 to create, adapt, or adopt openly licensed course materials. The university is also partnering with the New England Board of Higher Education on a statewide student survey on textbook costs, going out this fall. Read More>>
